Blackboard 8: Grade Center Training

Blackboard_Logo.jpgEducational Technology and Blackboard will be providing training on Blackboard 8 Grade Center. Grade Center is a new and improved version of the previous Blackboard grade book. It supports an interface similar to a spreadsheet, directed email to students, and the ability for instructors to generate progress reports. Other features include Smart Views, Grading Schemas, Grade Histories, and Hide/Freeze Columns. See a short video clip about Blackboard 8 Grade Center below.

To sign up for one of the Blackboard 8 Grade Center Training Sessions, follow the steps below:

1. Go to http://edtech.mst.edu
2. Click Register for Training.
3. Type in your Missouri S&T userid and password and click OK.
4. Click on the training session you want to sign up for.
5. Click Register.

Don’t forget: Office 2007 is available by calling the Help Desk

Office 2007 is now available for your university computer. New features in this version include:

• New, improved look and feel
• More intuitive menu navigation
• Better graphic and presentation options

Customers can get the new software now by contacting the Help Desk at 573-341-HELP. If you’re interested in getting this new software package, we encourage you to call before the start of the Fall Semester when our customer service lines are generally busiest.

First-time Office 2007 users often can’t find what was the File menu in earlier versions of Office (Save, Save as, Print, Print Preview, etc.). To access these same features in Office 2007, simply click on the round Office logo in the upper left corner of the screen.

Update: IT ticketing system fixed

The IT ticketing issues announced earlier have been resolved and help requests can now be submitted online. All tickets submitted in the past two days (Thursday and Friday) are now in our system and will be processed as soon as possible.

If you have any questions or feel your ticket was not received, please call the It Help Desk at 341-HELP (4357).

Ticketing system offline

We are currently experiencing issues with our IT ticketing system and tickets submitted electronically are not being delivered to our customer service team.

If you submitted a ticket in the past 24 hours, please call the Help Desk to make sure that your service request was received. If you need assistance with a new issue, please call the Help Desk instead of submitting a ticket online until further notice.

IT is currently working with our outside vendor to find and implement a solution. Thank you for your patience as we work to fix this problem.

Having issues with your campus printer?

The ability to print to campus printers was affected during last night’s IT maintenance window, but has now been restored to service and campus printers should be working properly.

If you are still unable to print, power down your printer, power it back up again and the network should update your printer with the appropriate configuration.

Ticketing system down for 30 minutes on July 17

IT will be performing rebranding-related maintenance on the IT ticketing system, accessible at help.mst.edu. Customers will not be able to create a ticket today between 12 noon and 12:30 p.m. If you have the ticketing application bookmarked in your web browser, please make sure it is set to the correct address, help.mst.edu.

If you have any questions about this issue, or are unable to create an IT ticket after 12:30 p.m., please call the IT Help Desk at 341-4357.

Thursday night maintenance window – July 17

The IT weekly maintenance window will occur Thursday, July 17, from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. The following services will be affected during this timeframe:

• IP phone voicemail
The Unity voicemail system (for customers with phones connected to the Internet) will be moved to the mst.edu domain as a part of campus rebranding. Voicemail will be unavailable during the entire maintenance window (10 p.m. to 2 a.m.)

• Linux and Windows systems
Monthly windows patching will take place. Linux and Windows servers will be unavailable for up to 30 minutes.

This is a regularly scheduled maintenance window that occurs every Thursday evening. An announcement explaining which, if any, services will be affected during the maintenance window will be posted at least 24 hours in advance each week on IT Press.

Action required if you use MST-WPA wireless network

As a part of our rebranding efforts, IT will be updating security certificates on Monday evening, July 15 starting around midnight.

During tonight's maintenance window, there may be periods of up to 30 minutes in which you will not be able to access the network at all. If you use the MST-WPA wireless connection on campus you will need accept the new certificate before you can access the wireless network after tonight.

Thursday night maintenance window

IT's regularly scheduled Thursday maintenance window will occur Thursday, July 10, from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. The following services will be affected:

Database - A university database, ccep, will be unavailable for up to 40 minutes during the change window. Among the affected programs by this ccep database service disruption is Development's online giving application.
