Campus License Agreement for Respondus Software Application

Missouri S&T now has a campus licensing agreement for Respondus. Respondus is a software application that allows instructors to create tests, quizzes, and other assessments for use in their course. Respondus is compatible with Blackboard and other learning management systems.

Instructors who have already purchased a license for Respondus will not need to renew their license. They will need to contact IT to have the campus-licensed version installed instead.

Instructors who do not have Respondus and would like to have Respondus installed should submit an online Help Request or contact the IT Help Desk at 341-HELP for assistance.

Blackboard maintenance on June 27:
Previous semesters’ Blackboard courses will no longer be available to students

On the evening of June 27, Blackboard will be unavailable for up to one hour between 5:30 p.m. and 10 p.m.

After this maintenance window is complete, courses in Blackboard from previous semesters will become unavailable to students. If they choose, instructors will be able to make courses available again on a course-by-course basis by using the course control panel.

Educational Technology Offers Clicker Training for Instructors on Thursday, June 26, 2008

On Thursday, June 26, 2008, Educational Technology will be hosting two training sessions for instructors who use clickers (or will be using clickers) to teach courses this fall.

IT will be releasing TurningPoint 2008 in conjunction with Office 2007 this fall, so EdTech strongly recommends ALL clicker faculty attend at least one of the two clicker training sessions (we will schedule more if the sessions fill up).

Basic Clicker/TurningPoint Training

Basic Clicker/TurningPoint training is for instructors who have never used clickers before. You will learn how to create clicker slides in TurningPoint, how to run a show during class, what reports are available and more.

Location: 103 Library

Advanced Clicker/TurningPoint Training

Advanced Clicker/TurningPoint training is available only for instructors who have already taught at least one clicker-enhanced course. You will learn about conditional branching techniques, how to set up course standards for your clicker course so that you can verify if student are meeting your established academic objectives, and you will learn how to create multi-answer questions.

To sign up for one or both of the clicker training sessions, follow the steps below:

1. Go to http://edtech.mst.edu
2. Click Register for Training.
3. Type in your Missouri S&T userid and password and click OK.
4. Click on the training session you want to sign up for.
5. Click Register.

Servers down for security patches

On June 19, during the normal IT maintenance window, Linux and Windows servers will be down for up to half an hour for monthly security patches.

Umr.edu names to be decommissioned

On June 19, during the normal IT maintenance window, the first round of umr.edu access paths will be decommissioned. Any bookmarks using the umr.edu path should be changed to reflect the change to mst.edu.

Intermittent Blackboard service disruptions on Sunday morning

On Sunday, June 8, from 6-9 a.m., Blackboard will be intermittently unavailable while maintenance is performed on the Blackboard application.

Although you may be able to login and access your courses, you are advised to not make updates in Blackboard during this maintenance window, as any changes made may be lost.

Internet outage - UPDATED

UPDATE - 11:10 a.m.
The current internet service disruption has been identified as a broad issue beyond MOREnet’s data carriers and is affecting all campuses in UM System. Internet service for sites outside UM System will be intermittent until further notice. Blackboard, UM System and Missouri S&T sites should still be stable, however customers may experience delays when initially loading these pages.

Our server technicians are currently in touch with MOREnet and any updates will be posted on IT Press as they become available.

10:35 a.m.
An issue has been discovered with our MOREnet network connection and the Internet is unavailable. Our server team is currently working to resolve the issue and bring service back as soon as possible. Although there is no ETA for return to service, information will be updated on IT Press as it becomes available.
