UMR IT Halts P2P Traffic through VPN

On Tuesday, May 22, 2007, UMR IT will no longer allow customers to use the Virtual Private Network (VPN) for the purposes of Peer-to-Peer (P2P) file-sharing applications. Customers who initiate a VPN connection to the campus network and subsequently begin a P2P session will discover that P2P has been disabled while the VPN connection is active. Disconnecting from VPN will re-enable P2P traffic through the customer’s normal Internet provider.
